It was a game of who had the better tactics, in which Leicester came out on top.  After some obvious research into Sutton Coldfield’s usual match winning game, Leicester surprised Sutton with a change which they could not adapt to in time.

SCHC Squad Lineup

Katie Long, who has just been given the England Indoor call up, was unstoppable for Leicester, with 4 excellent goals in total, 2 per half, leaving Sutton Coldfield keeper Becky Batsford and the crowd at a loss of how Katie kept loosing her marker.

A 3-3 score line at half time was reflective of an end to end half, with Woolford scoring a well worked penalty corner, and Butler and Cross adding classic Sutton goals from open play.

A chance for another goal went begging as a good Woolford penalty flick was matched with a good save from Leicester GK Maddie Hinch.

Good flick, good save.

The teams came out after half time, and Leicester turned up the heat with Katie Long and Laura Turner adding to the total to make it 6 goals early on.

Sutton were determined to get back n the game, and threw everything at them and produced some great chances that just would not go in, even taking the keeper off to play 6 outfield for the lat 5 minutes. However, this left a brave Jenny Parkinson stranded when faced with a Leicester penalty corner, which inevitably took their score to 7 and end Sutton Coldfield’s hopes of playing at Wembley!

Well played to all that took part, it was an excellent game of indoor to watch, and the support was second to none as usual. Thanks to all that made the trip, and great performance in the tournament overall or the Ladies 1st XI, the semi finals is a fantastic achievement.

Another upset in the other semi final saw favourites and unbeaten Bowdon Hightown knocked out by Reading after a rather dull 3-2 win. This surprise loss has left the Wembley stage to the outdoor top 2 Reading v Leicester.. As far as we are aware, the indoor games, which include the men’s final and semi finals, are being televised, so check back or an update on that next week!
