Sutton Coldfield 2xi suffer heavy loss against Nottingham university

In arguable the toughest fixture of the season, Sutton succumbed to a well drilled Nottingham university team last Saturday. This was Sutton's toughest challenge yet and with a staring formation of 3 at the back and some players being forced to play out of position this was always going to be a test. Nottingham opened the scoring early and their short corner routines proved too much for the Sutton defence and keeper. Sutton managed to restrain Nottingham in the tail end of the first half, however struggled to keep possession long enough to allow the forwards to have any impact on the game. Sutton did manage to break away a few times. Josh Ward and Jake Nicholls linking up well on several occasions to win a number of short corners. Sutton were unable to convert these however and Nottingham university pressed home their advantage in the second half. Despite Sutton stepping up and passing the ball better in the second half, Nottingham's patient press paid off and they demonstrated great quality in their finishing. The goals kept coming and a the final score left Sutton bewildered after such a crushing defeat. It should be said that Sutton Coldfield never lost their nerve and fight. Some youngsters made their league debut for the 2s side. Due to the quality of the opposition, first timers Isaac Mackay and Ben Green were not on the ball enough. But these talented youngsters should be ones to look out for in the future. Tom Peraton held up the midfield well, looking more and more confident each week and the boys at the back showed good spirit until the end. These were a quality opposition and it was a good experience to play such a side. Sutton can only learn from this experience and keep on improving in the weeks to come.
