Sutton lose out in local league clash

With the league restarting this week it was a high intensity match from the off with both sides looking strong. Sutton Coldfield had a full outfit of 15 players could not stop Lichfield from beginning the game well. Lichfield had the initial break, a short corner leading to a goal from a drag flick. Sutton came back strongly, holding the ball up well in midfield to give the forwards a run at the Lichfield defence. Sutton's resolve paid off when a short corner was converted by Tom Williamson. Sutton however were fortunate to stay level at half time, with a disallowed goal from Lichfield later in the half.

The second half saw Lichfield step up their game and begin to dominate. Sutton Coldfield made some basic errors and gave the ball away cheaply. With mounting pressure and frustration Lichfield capitalised and scored three more goals. Sutton showed some fight towards the end of the second half; Sutton proved that they can implement a full press successfully and were rewarded with a late goal from Ralph Brocklebank. It was all too little too late for Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield demonstrated that they could finish more of their chances than Sutton. The score ended 4-2 to Lichfield. Sutton will have to come back strong next week if they are to stand any chance of challenging for promotion.
