3 goals, 3 points, clean sheet. Sutton edge up the league...

With Edgbaston gaining a point in the sole fixture last weekend against Shrewsbury, M2s knew a win at Fortress Wyndley would still take them a point above their south Birmingham rivals but weren't taking anything for granted in a tight league

Oh you thought I'd forgot question time...you can't escape it that easily folks!
Captain Edward John Smith of Titanic fame is in Lichfield Beacon Park (Thanks to Ryan for that one) and Northampton is the biggest town in England (who both M1 and L2 faced this week...planned or coincidence, you decide)

This weeks...
1. How many extra points in Scrabble would Sutton Coldfield score compared to Edgbaston?
2. Which former prime minister was born in Edgbaston (and was later MP for the area)?

I have to be honest here and explain it was touch and go whether I could bring myself to write this report after receiving the brutal news that I hadn't been included in the updated team photo. But after skipper Moss reminded me of contractual obligations and the threat of no lifts to training I'm delighted to be here and writing as usual...

Sutton started well and took the lead inside 5 minutes following a penalty corner and a reaward which was subsequently converted by the fast becoming iconic connection of Brewill to Max H deflection. Well done Hyde on the side for the suggestion.

The remainder of the half saw a number of very good Sutton chances spurned - including a number of good saves by the Edgbaston keeper, as well as some opposition attacks - that whilst did not lead to goals, did highlight the risk the home side was facing by not having been able to add to their one goal advantage despite having the majority of the play.

Half time 1-0. Sweets were delivered Ride on Time by newly qualified driver Ethan M. But could M2s avoid conceding after 30 seconds of the 2nd half this week...the final score would suggest yes!

The longer the second period progressed, the more the lack of a second goal felt like it could come back to haunt M2s...but thankfully Halloween is in the rear mirror and a number of important saves by Ethan M and numerous goal line clearances by Ollie Aerial-Wright, Anoop S and Archie "I don't read group messages" Cleaver respectively kept the score at 1-0 long enough for Sutton to work out how to add to their tally after seemingly trying every method but scoring. Firstly, Ryan B decided he'd score the harder bobbling opportunity than his previous chances to make it 2-0 (although I did enjoy the ambition of one in particular - the baseline headheight shot/cross attempt, not sure the players who had to duck did though).

2 became 3 (sorry spice girls) soon after when Dan W scored his second in as many games with a similar finish to last time that was coolly lifted over the keeper. 3-0. The clean sheet was almost lost when Edgbaston thought they had pulled one back but the goal was correctly ruled out for a foot in front of goal in the build up. Gotta love those fantasy points.

MOTM went to ankle-breaking Alex T.

Next week M2 will hope to build on 2 wins from 2 when they face a strong Harborne 3s side who sit 3rd in the league (one of 3 teams on 12 points) in another local contest at 3pm at Five Ways School. (Thats a lot of 3s!)

With Sky, DAZN and TNT sports still bidding for the exclusive rights to show M2 games, in-person attendance is still required for now and all support is always greatly welcomed.
