On the first Saturday of March, the 2s faced Edgbaston on the wonderful UoB pitches. The weather was beautiful, a sunny day for hockey. We were ready. We were hoping to score a good number of goals and not concede any so we could work on our goal difference. Losing or drawing wasn't even on our mind, a win is what we came for. As beautiful as the pitch was, it was clear Edgbaston was used to the bounce more than we were. Almost being afraid of where the ball was going to go, Edgbaston managed to press us quite high into our 23 and we felt a little out of control in the first 5 minutes. Luckily, we managed to find our way up the pitch because of our skilled players finding a way past their midfield and defence. We had some good chances early on that we didn't convert. This seems to become the story of the second half of the season so far! Edgbaston started to smell some opportunities. Using the pitch to their advantage, they managed to find their way into our D and have a few shots and short corners. Through strong defending and goalkeeping, we kept the ball out of our net and motivate our attacking forces. A few short corners here and there on our behalf didn't find their way in till the last minute of the first half. Scooby converted a difficult bouncy shot and we went into the break 1-0 up. Finally, we scored a goal, more to come we hoped!

Leaving Dudders a little lost for a team talk, we decided on keeping moving for each other and getting the ball up the pitch, creating chances and hopefully goals. We knew we had to attack and defend as a team since the bouncy balls could still find their way through on the wrong side of the pitch. We were ready to go again and score more goals in the second half.

We restarted as we were meant to go on. We found our way in their half time and time again but we couldn't convert our chances. Issues of our attackers defending their goal and Jasper missing an "Olympian sitter" meant we were still only 1-0 up. At this point we would have the 3 points and the clean sheet but not those much needed goals we should have had. Edgbaston started to smell some doubt and started to creep into our half again. We, on the other hand, tried to stay up as high as we could, leaving the defensive line ever so slightly exposed. A bounced ball through and 3 Edgbaston attackers found themselves in our D. They didn't think twice and put the ball away successfully. 1-1. That wasn't part of the plan. We kept going though, trying our hardest to find our way to another goal. This didn't come and we were lucky right at the end Edgbaston didn't get a last minute short corner. A draw is not a loss at least, but to some, it felt like it. It's getting closer to crunch time and we are going to need a few more points! We're still 5th, 2 points behind Stourport and Boots. We face Stourport in 2 weeks and we're aiming for a good result. The league is getting interesting now, with Boots (our opponents next Saturday) losing to Leek. Our dazzle of Mighty Pink zebras are going to have to train hard and fight hard to get a place in the top 4 to get promoted. We will not give up! 4 more games, still all to play for but goals and points are needed. We go again next week at our own pitch, see you there!
