It makes a difference if you have a lethal finisher

There is a reason Harborne 3 are the top scorers in our division
M3 ran into a centre forward in top form in their game away at Harborne M3. He scored 5 of the 7 and was instrumental in most of their attacking play. Fair dos, he scored some very good goals, both short corners and open play. This explains why Harborne 3 have scored 20 goals more than any other team. It also explains how we were able to beat them in the home match - he didn't play.
M3 actually took the lead in this game having weathered an early storm. From a short corner the ball was slipped left to Steve Potter who banged in his 2nd goal of the season with a shot into the far corner. That was as good as it got for Sutton, they knew it wasn't their day when a short corner goal was given even though the ball hit the back fence. The umpires had not checked the nets before the match and apparently the ball had gone through a hole.
It didn't help when Paddy Andrews took a stick to the foot and had to hobble off, leaving Sutton to play with 10 men for part of the 2nd half until he was able to come back on. Stuart Cave stood in admirably at right back in the interim in only his second 3XI appearance.
