Sutton Coldfield Men’s 3s face an early season bottom of the table 6 pointer at Burton on Saturday 7th November 2015.
The home side started brighter taking advantage of Sutton’s halfbacks pushing too high up the pitch and playing with a direct style, Burton created a couple of early chances. Sutton on the other hand were finding it tough going and misplaced passes were turning over possession too regularly.
Burton deserved the early break through, gifted softly from a penalty corner.
Sutton grew into the game with Sam Straw winning a penalty corner then penalty stroke, which Ben Dunnington confidently dispatched high into the rigging to level things up.
As the second half began Sutton's quality started to show as they created several open play chances but failed to capitalise. Sutton continued to press and debutant Archie Samson played a wonderful ball across the Burton D, eliminating the goalkeeper and setting up Lee Medlicott to finish the easiest of chances. Sutton then scored a third, Peter Tricky setting up Tom Eustace who fired hard and low past the keeper at his near post.
This should have sealed the game in Suttons favour and despite being in control the team’s brittle confidence began to show as Burton scored a second from a penalty corner and forcing Rich Burnell into a crucial save moments later.
Sutton weren’t to be denied though as Straw and Eustace tied up possession by the oppositions corner flag to see out clock and a 3-2 victory to Sutton.
