Sutton collected all three points in this fixture thanks to a brace from Ralph Brocklebank, who also claimed the MOM accolades.
Bloxwich haven't conceded many goals this season, drawing three of their six but without a win to date. Sutton ensured the W column remained as 0 in a close game despite the opposition having 10 men throughout.
Bloxwich actually took the lead after thwarting many Sutton attacks as they packed the D with at least 5 defenders, at times, all 10 inside their 25. Sutton suffered from poor final ball choices, creating openings and then failing to put the player in. Chances did appear, a fantastic move resulting in Godsell pulling a ball back to the unmarked Lumb who drew an excellent save, a move that was repeated - this time Harding to Lumb - a few minutes later. Skipper Harding hit the post, soon followed by Tom Eustace - would it cost the hosts? Knowing that it only takes one opportunity, a short corner lead to the opener, with Bloxwich showing that they could play with some control, Sutton over committing and despite a classy rebuff from Dubb, the hapless Hyde helped the ball over the line. The response was instant, Brocklebank squaring the game - in between times, the skipper retired from the fray - age or injury?
Sutton continued to press and thankfully it was Brocklebank that scored what proved to be the winner. Sutton never looked like they would lose this game - but they could have drawn or lost it at any time. With ten minutes left, Sutton played keep ball - to some level of success! A first home win of the season resulted - well battled lads.
