On the road again, the mighty pinks travelled to league newbies Wakefield hoping to reignite their winning ways.

Fairbrother’s fun fact first of course. Which football team in the UK has the oldest football chant?

It’s been a while since the mighty pinks had travelled up to Wakefield, some had never been before and others were impressed by the sparkling new clubhouse renovation. All were desperate for a cup of tea though whilst they awaited the arrival of Mr Fun Fact himself. Not like the meet time had been moved earlier or anything… But his arrival came with gifts so can’t complain too much.

Then began the age old debate of is it baselayer weather or are you just a wimp. Sue likes to warm up in hers and then play without, so ticked both boxes, woman of the people.

New warm up prep, featuring firecracker lunges and a new game play drill straight from the training ground, the girls were ready to go.
The mighty pinks started strong fending off an aerial shells from the home side. It was clear they had a few key players and Sutton adapted accordingly. Even some oohs and aahs from the crowd couldn’t slow down the migthy pinks. However, their avergence to scoring in odd number quarters proved true again.

A quarter time team talk and the drizzle cleared, the game heated up. Sutton scored within 30 seconds of the whistle blowing. Mez tapped home a well worked play, that had Mollie sprinting a half pitch from Vicky’s eagle eye.

More silky play from the mighty pinks had Wakefield chucking in some hit and miss tackles. Poor Mollie did well to leave with all limbs. However, their tackling and debating of decisions lead to enough of a delay for EP to creep unmarked up the pitch. Eagle eyed Vicky found her on the edge of the circle and she sent a rocket cross through the circle that went all the way in. Yep that’s Manning and EP both now scoring goals – weird right? 2-0.

Half time and things were positive.

The defence had seen off multiple penalty corner attacks from Wakefield and Carpay kept watch of any other threats.

More opportunities came Suttons way in the second half. Freya stepped up to fill in as players went off to cards. Putting in a stellar show in a midfield role. Profiterole worthy.

It took until the fourth quarter for the mighty pinks to score again. Mez again on the scoresheet again tapping home from another fabulous display of hockey.

Penalty corners came and went for the mighty pinks as the game ended with a bang, literally, as Wakefield had a player go on a ten minute yellow. Despite some variations for the corners, Darwin, Daisy and Rooster to name a few… none went in. 3-0 was the final score.

Player of the match went unanimously to Freya for her stepping up, even though she had to drop back a line. DOD went to Andy for being late to the meet. Answer to Fairbrother’s fun fact was Norwich City.

Next week the mighty pinks return home for a triple header as the mighty twos play Ashby at 11.30, the ladies 1s pushback at 12noon against local rivals Olton and then the men follow on against Khalsa. Big games need big players and the girls are more than ready.
