Returning to Wyndley for the penultimate time this season, the mighty pinks hosted Wakefield who are also trapped in the scrap at the bottom of the table.

Fairbrother’s fun fact this week was a good one… mainly as Freya didn’t guess it straight away: How much horsepower does a horse have?

Parking was not too terrible this week, but maybe that’s the Gloucester carry over making it seem more bearable. Three managers again and the return of our favourite TO and his classic ‘I’m sweet enough’ line when making his coffee… requesting only the best service (you’re still banned Carpay).

Teamtalk complete. Handover of Enya’s player card done, claiming her the second biggest badger to Barry himself. Finners compulsory dancing had some Spanish flare this week all in the build up to game time.

Sutton started strong and Wakefield held firm to not give them an inch. Mollie continued to outpace anyone near her winning corners and putting the ball in tap in areas. Unfortunately, the football chat midweek must’ve been stuck in Mezza’s head as she left footed two chances early doors.

Quarter one finished 0-0. Quarter two finished 0-0.

A slight change up of formation happened somewhere along the lines and then reset again. Wakefield’s fluffy haired centre kept picking off chances. But eventually the ball found her foot not her stick and Sutton won another corner. Over to Captain Susan to score. 1-0.

May have taken three quarters but it was all going to plan.

Until Wakefield came right back at Sutton who had hit the snooze button. And they scored a corner of their own. 1-1.

Quarter three 1-1.

Final quarter and time to push harder. Eight out of ten performance or nothing for Sutton was still the goal. Winning every quarter was out the window now anyway.

Who can you rely on to score when needed? Nope not Manning (sorry Darren), McCabe. A lovely bit of link up play on the right lead to a cross from Groves being slotted home by Em. 2-1.

Then came BP finishing off another clean move. 3-1.

And finally came Enya. With a well-placed finish to make it 4-1. Four goals means we technically won every quarter… right?

POM went to BM for another middle of the pitch management and her near goalscoring territory. DOD went to Andy for worm gate and ‘we love nike hockey’. Fairbrother’s fun fact answer was 24 (always guess your shirt number kids).

Next week Sutton head to the localest of rivals Olton for another feisty match up. With slip ups around them and Bucks vs Durham on Sunday, three more points could make the p word a reality very soon.
