Having drawn the away game 0-0, L2 we’re looking to upgrade to a win and build on last weeks victorious result, and with 2 minutes to go and still no goal keeper, Boots thought they would be facing a very attacking Sutton formation of 11 outfield players. However with seconds to spare, Dannie turned up having played for the 3s (much to everyone’s relief) and the match got underway.
A cautious start saw both teams probing for an opening, and it was Sutton who found it when Crossy and Jess combined well in the D, leaving Jess to force the ball home after a goal line scramble.
Boots immediately looked to strike back, launching wave after wave of attacks, but nothing was getting past Man of the Match BFH, who was inspired by her own personal fan club.
There were some hard fought battles in midfield, with both teams guilty of surrendering possession too easily, but Sutton had the better of it with good attacking play linking down the left with use of Chloe’s ariels and Emily’s pace.
Throughout the second half, L2 struggled to turn their defensive dominance into another goal, until Jasper, picking up the ball in midfield, fed to Beth, who took the ball first time to slot into the back of the net.
From that point on, Boots new the game was lost, but took the odd decision to play a half court press and keep the score line respectable, and L2 used all their experience to protect their lead, and collect 3 points for a second week in the row and go above Boots in the table.
A big thanks to the ball girls and boys, who did a great job at keeping the game flowing, even when the players were in desperate need of a breather.
