For the 2nd week running, L5 were forced to dig deep to record another win and another 3 points against Stratford.
This was not a game for the purists. Neither side could claim dominance over the other and both lacked a real cutting edge in front of goal, but L5 showed determination; and the ability to “win ugly” will stand them in good stead for the remainder of the season.
After an uneventful first half, the game was won when Megan drove to the line and pulled the ball back to Hannah at the top of the D. Hannah’s shot was then deflected in by the quick thinking Nuala to give L5 the lead.
L5 held out against some strong Stratford pressure with Trixie and Maddie especially resolute in defence and linking up with the midfield and attack but the girl of the game award was taken by Hannah who continues to play with a maturity beyond her years.
It may not have been a game to last long in the memory but at this stage of the season it’s all about the 3 points!
