Woke up to that lovely sight of snow. Next thought, layers, many layers would be needed, with hats, gloves and scarves if that were possible!
After a few wrong turns into housing and industrial estates, we finally arrived at the ground. Meeting for our team talk then braving the elements, we started our warm up (minus our captain as Kate thought it best to try to dry her gloves).
We started facing into what little sun there was. Attacking Rugby’s push back from the word go, winning the ball and setting off towards their goal. Good passing and dribbling but we just could not make it over the goal line. Attack after attack failed but then Mia broke the stalemate with a lovely goal. We then seemed to settle and our passes become a lot more fluent. Just before half time Jemma scored goal number 2.
Half time came and with some of us looking more like eskimos we discussed the need for somebody to try and play the role Grace usually does and not worrying if we need to play the ball back so we can attack from another angle.
Second half started and Jemma was on a mission to get herself on the post and interrupt the goalkeeper. With one or two mistimed attempts, it was then open season. Jemma timed her placement to perfection and goal number 3 was banked. This was the start of a goal feast between Jemma and Rhi. Each taking it in turns and banking a hat trick each. The angle of Rhi’s final goal was unbelievable. Final score 8-0 to Sutton.
Roll on next week; home advantage but a late start could be another chilly game.
