What weather! Absolutely diabolical! And thank you to Telford for switching the venue to a Wrekin College - St George’s Park being flooded (again!)
Sutton came out all guns blazing and put significant pressure on the hosts early in the game which resulted in multiple chances going begging, as final passes missed their intended. Front marking and anticipation, coupled with great youthful pace and experience stopped Telford’s attacks and finally Sutton scores - twice in five minutes through Ben Priddey and Ian Harding.
Priddey tapped home from short range as a short corner broke down and the second was a result of a quick ball retrieval, quickly taken long corner and Eustace combining with Harding, the miscontrol slipping between the keeper’s legs.
The second half the relentless rain kept going and Sutton kept running through Telford - Sutton transferred the ball quickly and accurately, time and time again breaking the back line. Sam Godsell on the right found acres of space and Sam Lumb on the left nearly added to the score as he went on a mazy run.
But alas, no more goals and it was thanks to keeper Akash Dubb, largely untroubled in the game, who made two sharp saves late on that Telford didn’t make the last 12 minutes interesting. There was still time for the skipper to miss from a yard... and hit a post with a reverse stick effort before the final whistle came... time to dry out!!!
