After a cautious, yet end to end, first half, Sutton Coldfield's fitness and substitutions proved the difference as two second-half goals gave us the win against a youthful and determined Leek side.
Fielding four debut players, and with three young players playing their first ever league match, Sutton Coldfield showed good teamwork and looked very solid at the back, with Nischal Reddy only tested towards the end of the game with us already leading 2-0, and Finnen Au giving a man of the match performance in his first game.
Wingers John Backhouse and Tom Lewis played particularly well and we had the majority of the attackng play in the second half, with Niall Johnson scoring the first goal of the season, followed shortly afterwards by a debut league goal from Aditya Kalambettu.
Leek began to press in the latter stages of the match, forcing a number of short corners which were well defended, and we managed to see the game out for a well deserved opening win.
