The 8ths opened their League campaign with a much changed, bare 11, including two youngsters getting their first taste of Men’s League hockey. In spite of 4 players, including the captain, falling literally out of the car on to the pitch, it was Sutton who started the brighter. As the half progressed, however, passes went astray, and the hosts were allowed to grab the initiative and the lead. Apart from one smart save from keeper Luke Beveridge, however, Sutton dominated the second period, with veteran, Paul Collins, rolling back the years and staggering forward to reinforce Sutton’s attacks. Stafford’s impressive goalie was beaten finally by Rob Mcleish’s crisp drive, and then victory was secured by Tony Smith reverse sweeping Kye Hayden’s pass home.
