Sutton's faced an experienced and robust Lichfield team in their first encounter of the U16 Girls Championship League. The game started evenly with attacks at both end, but it was Lichfield who found the net first after a well executed short corner. Naomi Lancaster who put in her second good performance of the weekend levelled the scores shortly after, but it was not long before Lichfield counter attacked and put themselves a further 2 goals ahead. Lydia Potter made a number of solo runs through the midfield and was justly rewarded with a goal before half time. When Sutton moved the ball out wide, Emma Hampton showed her pace down the right flank and Chanel Kang made some good interceptions and early forward passes to the Sutton forwards. It was a spirited first half performance by Sutton U16's girls who although found themselves 3-2 down at half time, were still well in contention.

The second half started promisingly with some improved passing from Sutton players. They were unlucky not to get an equaliser early on, but it was Lichfield who used their pace and strength on the ball to dominate the play. They continued to put the Sutton defence under pressure and although some stalwart defending by Charlie Garvey and the defence kept them at bay initially, as the players began to get tired, Lichfield pounced on every opportunity and put themselves a further goal ahead. At 4-2, Sutton's heads dropped a little and frustration kicked in. The team lost their shape and focus and errors began to creep in. Lichfield took advantage of this and put
a further 4 goals past the disheartened team. Credit to the Sutton girls for not giving up, they continued to hit Lichfield on the break and were unlucky not to score a couple of times late in the second half.

Onwards and upwards for the next game against Olton !
