The crowds were treated to an enthralling game of hockey at Wyndley on Sunday in the girls U16 Championship match against Olton. The Sutton youngsters put behind them their disappointing result against Lichfield and were a different team, full of energy, skill and competitiveness. Although the Olton side took an early lead it didn't take long before super sub Naomi Fisher found herself on the end of a well orchestrated move down the pitch and slotted home the equalizer. Fairly impressive for someone playing upfront for the first time and her first touch of the game!

Olton took back the lead minutes later, only for Sutton to equalize soon after through a great short corner move, which was slammed home by Lydia Potter. This time it was Sutton's turn to take the lead following some mazy skills of Sophie Davies who coolly slotted the ball past the stranded keeper. At 3-2 down Olton didn't back off, they came at Sutton with a vengeance and scored their equalizer following some scrappy and tired defending.

3-3 and with only 10 mins to go, Olton were rewarded a penalty flick following a disputed foot stop on the line by Pavan Bains, however the aroma of Charlie Garvey's goalie kit must have had an effect on the Olton forward as her attempt hit the post to everyone's relief. The Sutton team were beginning to tire and some careless decision making gave the crowd and coach a few heart stopping moments, but Olton's advances were always thwarted by an inform Charlie Garvey in goal. The Sutton team responded well to shouts of encouragement from the enthusiastic crowd and rallied round for the last 5 mins and were well rewarded for their efforts with a winning goal from Olivia Harrison.

Final result 4 - 3 to Sutton and a fabulous entertaining game of hockey for all. A big congratulations to all the players for their contribution to the game, it was a fine team performance. A win against Cannock at the end of November could possibly see them through to the next round of the competition.
