Domination results in promotion secured with a few games to go. 2nd XI Captain Ralph Brocklebank sums up the season.

Following last year’s demotion, the 2XI set out the season with a point to prove.

In some of the opening games there was some close finishes with 3-2 away
wins against Boots and Berkswell & Basall. We quickly showed that this Sutton side was hard to score past and tough to beat. Week after week we kept winning.

11-0 against Nottingham; this decisive win demonstrated how clinical the
Sutton forwards were, Tommy Eustace, Jake Nicholls and Tom Evans all cashing in.

For the 9th game of the season Sutton came up against Loughborough Town. Both sides had won 8 out of 8. Sutton’s 1-0 win at home proved a turning
point. Our defence Nick Brewill, Andy Millman, Pete Trickey and Sam Patel with keeper Bill Heywood have been formidable this year only conceded 18 goals in 20 matches.

In the second half of the season, younger players have been breaking through. Look out for Lewis Chatham, Tom Peraton and Tom Williamson in the future. And I have to mention the ever reliable Sam Hardman and Sam “albatross arms” Straw being the play makers and stalwarts of the midfield.

Well done this season lads – we are champions!

Ralph Brocklebank
