Promotion into Division 1 brings it's challenges and the threat of demotion. 4th XI Captain Angela Evans sums up the season.

Promotion to Division 1 last season meant 2013-14 was always going to be a challenging season for Sutton 4s and challenging it was with a number of defeats in their first few games.

At the halfway point and despite some great team performances, the team were sat in the bottom half of the division and knew they were going to have to turn their season around in order to avoid relegation.

The start of the second half of the season wasn't kind with further defeats pushing Sutton 4s further down the table and with only a 1-1 draw from the two ‘must win’ games they really did have a relegation battle on their hands.

With three games to go and with great inspiration, Captain Angela Evans decided on a change in tactics to restructure the team’s attacking system. This proved very effective resulting in 5-0 and 8-1 wins.

One game to go and the team needed a draw against top of the league Stratford 1s to avoid relegation, which was always going to be a massive ask. However, team spirit, blood, sweat and tears and an amazing resilient performance resulted in Sutton 4s securing a 1-1 draw finishing safe in 7th place overall.

Well done on securing a well-deserved place next season in Division 1 for a team who have developed and grown week by week with a great combination of talented youngsters and experienced seniors.
