Core Committee Meeting 24.02.25

SCHC Comms27 Feb - 17:50

Summary minutes from the meeting

Welfare
● Thank you to Doug Cave, SCHC’s Mental Health Lead, who delivered a presentation to the committee. He emphasised the club’s commitment to looking after and developing all members of our hockey community, and about the importance of supporting each other with our mental health.
● Doug will lead a working group reviewing current mentoring provision, with a plan to re-launch the mentoring programme at the start of next season. Please contact Doug if you are interested in joining the group.
● A reminder to all members and parents that our welfare and safeguarding documents are uploaded to the club website. SCHC’s Code of Conduct: https://www.suttoncoldfieldhc.co.uk/a/welfare-and-safeguarding-62883.html is agreed to by all members/parents when signing up for membership each season.

Junior Section
● Warwickshire county tournaments take place on Sunday 9th March (U10s) and Sunday 16th March (U12s).
● Congratulations to Mollie Beeton who represented England U18s last week in a series of matches against Ireland.

Senior Section
● Women: W1 restart their outdoor league campaign this weekend, away at Holcombe. W3 and W6 are still in promotion contention. A Player Development Group has been set up, providing additional stretch and opportunities for identified younger players currently playing W5/6/7s hockey.
● Men: M1 are competing well, now in 3rd place with an undefeated run, currently 7 points behind the team in second place. M2 are targeting key games to avoid relegation. M6 are also hoping to avoid relegation. M3 were on track for promotion, but recent form makes this challenging.
● Summer League – Three men’s and three women’s teams have been entered into summer leagues.
● WO35 and WO45 teams are both through to the QF of their respective EH Cup competitions. O35 play Clifton away on Sunday 8th March and O45 have drawn Leamington away on 23rd March. Good luck to both teams!

Finance & subscriptions
● England Hockey’s annual subscription is increasing substantially next season, albeit with a commitment from EH to including more as part of their core offer to affiliated clubs.
● We are planning to streamline SCHC’s subscription categories and the 2025/26 subscriptions will be agreed at the March committee meeting.
● Thank you in advance to Mike Birch who is taking over from Ian Harding as Club Membership Secretary.
● We are still looking for a new Finance Officer. Please speak to Matt Jones or any member of the committee if you might be interested and would like to find out more about what is involved.

Socials
● Men’s and Women’s End of Season dinners are booked in at the clubhouse on Saturdays 29th March and 12th April respectively. Tickets will be available to purchase on Pitchero shortly.
● SCHC’s Annual Ball is on Saturday 10th May at Aston Wood Golf Club.
● An Italian themed Volunteers’ meal is taking place at the clubhouse on Monday 10th March – an opportunity to thank the large number of volunteers who help run our club. All club volunteers should have been assigned the product on Pitchero, please contact Cath James if you have any queries regarding the meal.
● A ‘Sponsors Event’ is planned for 22nd March with W1, W2 & M1 all having home Wyndley matches that day.
