We are delighted that our home pitch at Wyndley Leisure Centre has been chosen as one of the training venues for the 2022 Commonwealth Games
Ex #mightypinks legend and triple Olympic medal winner Laura Unsworth returned to where she started her hockey career to help promote the good news. She joined Men’s Chair Peter Westbrook and Cllr Paulette Hamilton, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care at Birmingham City Council at Wyndley for an official Birmingham 2022 event to launch the CWG training venues across the region
It is very exciting that Sutton Coldfield will host some of the very best hockey players in the world as they train and prepare for the CWG hockey tournament. As we get more details about what’s happening we will let you know
For the club longer term this means an FIH competition standard water based pitch for us to play and train on, with new fencing and new floodlights too. There could be no better environment for us to start the careers of the next Sutton Coldfield Olympians
To avoid confusion, the green turf in the picture is the cage, which is going to be a multi-sports space. The main pitch will a beautiful blue hockey Smurf turf, identical to the competition pitches at Birmingham University
