Summary minutes from the meeting

Committee members:

Welfare Update

  • At the start of the season, the welfare team will run a meeting for all coaches, captains etc to go through key welfare policies.
  • The mentoring system for junior players transitioning to senior hockey will commence in the 2021-22 season.
  • There will be a transition document for juniors & a meeting (probably via zoom) at the start of the season, to support the transition into senior hockey.

Player Development Group Update

  • SCHC to register an interest in becoming a Talent Centre.
  • Transition from junior to senior hockey - could be ‘Academy Hockey’ for all U8 - U18 specific hockey (to include badgers hockey; Sunday morning hockey; age group competition and additional training opportunities.
  • Organisation could be Junior Academy (up to Year 7) and Senior Academy (Years 8 - 13).
  • Badgers hockey provides an opportunity for 12-14 year olds to start playing senior hockey.
  • There will be Wednesday night training at Vesey for U12s. If aged 13+, players can join ladies club training night on a Wednesday at Wyndley or Men’s club training on a Thursday at Vesey. There will also be scheduled Sunday sessions for U16 & U18s.

Summer hockey

  • Men: Two summer league teams are competing throughout the summer. Thanks to everyone involved in Spring/Summer matches and training.
  • Ladies: Summer leagues: Cannock league has finished now & Sutton won the league. The Olton league continues until the end of July. U18 girls were beaten by Oltin in the plate. A strong U14s side beat Stourport, Stone & lost on flicks to Alderley Edge.
  • New Sunday morning sessions have started at Vesey 10-11.30, run by Doug Cave. Please set your availability on Pitchero if you would like to attend.

COVID Update

  • Removal of restrictions from 19th July, hoping that track and trace will no longer be required.

Finance & Kit Update

  • Financial position is strong and with a potential surplus anticipated for 2021 year end.
  • Spring hockey was successful across all sections.
  • Recent kit orders (playing and leisurewear) are due to arrive by the start of September.
  • Subscriptions for the 2021/22 season will be proposed at the central committee meeting on 19th July.

Coaching Update

  • Men’s 1st XI coach recruitment process is ongoing.
  • Coaches will all be DBS checked & a central system maintained.
  • If you are interested in doing any coaching within the club, please contact Doug Cave.

Umpiring

  • Planning to run courses for members to grow the pool of umpires.
  • Looking to coordinate allocation of umpires across all sections.

EH Governance and impact on Midlands

  • Under the new governance structure, the 5 former Regions have become 8 Areas, with the same rules for each league.. The new Midlands Hockey Ltd covers virtually the same area as the former MRHA Ltd and will have one one League Committee for men & women.
  • England Hockey will provide fixtures and operate league tables via a new Game Management System for all of the leagues, due to launch on 23rd July.
  • Qualified Umpires may be able to opt-in to a system which could allocate them to games not at their own club.
  • Fixtures are due to be published on the EH website on 14th July. Sat 25th september start date for majority of leagues.
  • Men’s fixtures will now have half term breaks (built in as slip dates).

Facilities Update

  • Still awaiting decision on Wyndley being relaid as a training facility for the Commonwealth Games.
  • BCC yet to decide about the permanent use of Vesey pitch after 6.30pm Monday - Thursday. Some summer league games have been moved to Wyndley
  • Could have a significant impact on evening training sessions for the 2021/22 season.

Socials

  • We are keen to have representatives from across the club, particularly volunteers from the senior men's teams.
  • If you are interested in joining the social planning group, please contact Eli Thomas or Jon Best.
  • Sat 18th September - event at the clubhouse, with hog roast and a band, from 4pm onwards. The event will also involve a memorial match for Miles Millignton & Andrew Waters.
  • Club day is Sat 4th Sept, full details to follow.
  • Most teams will have friendlies on 11th/18th & leagues start on 25th September.
  • Committee/captains meals will be arranged during the season.

Club Structure

  • The proposed structure is aiming for identified operational groups reporting to a single overall club committee, with members appointed to club officer positions.

AOB

  • Sutton Community Games - Sat 10th & Sun 11th July, 12-5pm at Wyndley. Thanks to all those who have volunteered their time.
  • Back to hockey - Peter Westrbrrok will be running this in August, 11-30-1 at Vesey.
