Having lost 3-0 in the home fixture earlier in the season, L5 travelled to Warwick looking to put in an improved performance. It speaks volumes for the team that they did so in all areas except scoring.
Sometimes everything you try comes off. Every attack ends in a chance at goal, every tackle is clean and every miss hit finds a pink shirt. However you learn a lot more about a team when they are under the cosh, when they have to scrap for everything and when they just don’t get the rub of the green. This was one of those days, and while L5 came away on the losing side they contributed to a hard fought game, played in a great spirit against strong opposition and the result was in the balance until the final whistle.
Warwick were deserving winners but the margins between winning and losing were very fine and Warwick’s coaches were full of praise for the performance of some of our young players (and the not so young!) and how much they had improved in the 3 months since the previous game.
Every one of L5s players put in a real shift but special mentions should go to Sam in goal, Sarah, Maddy, Megan and Mia who were resolute in defence and girl of the game Caitlin who was a constant thorn in Warwick’s side with her probing runs and close control.
Sometimes it really is about more than just the 3 points.
